WHERE CAN I FIND MORE INFO ABOUT THE NOTIFICATION I RECEIVED FROM A VIDEO I UPLOADED TO YOUTUBE?

If you’ve received a notice from YouTube stating that Music For Productions Inc. owns or controls the content in your video, this FAQ is for you. It will explain what the notice is and why you received it.

GENERAL POINTS

Question: What is a YouTube Content ID Notice?
Answer: This is a notice you receive when a video you’ve uploaded contains content, either video or music, that YouTube identifies as being owned by someone else.

Question: Why does this happen?
Answer: Content ID is a technology that exists for three reasons: (a) it allows content providers to identify when videos incorporate their content, (b) it allows YouTube to generate revenue by placing advertising next to content that has been included in the Content ID program and identified in uploaded videos (this revenue is shared with Content ID partners such as Music For Productions Inc. and its composers); and (c) this revenue stream allows YouTube to offer its video sharing service for free.

Question: But, I own the video I recorded.
Answer: That’s basically right, but read on. YouTube and Music For Productions Inc. are not claiming any rights to the original video footage you created. The YouTube Content ID system asserts claims relating to Music For Productions Inc.’s content that you most likely have included in your video. The original video is yours, subject to Music For Productions Inc.’s rights in the music in your video which remains Music For Productions Inc.’s, in other words both parties retain ownership of their separate creative property.
