Ma. Patricia B. Paz is a Partner in SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan. Her practice areas are dispute resolution and commercial arbitration. She has represented clients in all levels of the Philippine judiciary, before international and domestic arbitral tribunals, as well as in proceedings before administrative agencies in the highly regulated water, mining, environmental protection, energy, land use, and telecommunications sectors. Ms. Paz is a significant contributor in many of the firm’s most complex and high-value cases. She has recently been involved in defending the country’s largest power distribution public utility company in anti-trust litigation before the energy sector regulator; representing a project owner in a dispute under the HKIAC rules involving hundreds of millions of dollars; advising several foreign clients in a national public inquiry on the human rights implication of climate change; defending an international organization’s immunity rights in criminal suits against its high ranking officials; and securing a favorable award against both the project owner and its surety in construction arbitration initiated against the client-contractor.
