E. Drew Dutton is a New York-based corporate insurance partner who regularly represents financial institutions, private equity sponsors, pension funds and multinational corporations in a broad range of cross-border transactions. Mr. Dutton is also a leader of the firm’s Alternative Assets Transactions and Liquidity Solutions Group, where he regularly advises investors and general partners on a wide range of anchor investments, co-investments, acquisition and investment platforms, bespoke joint ventures and secondaries transactions. In the course of his more than 20-year career with Debevoise, Mr. Dutton has been resident in our offices in Hong Kong, Paris and Frankfurt and advised on deals across many industries and jurisdictions, but he has particularly extensive experience in transactions involving insurance businesses in North America, Bermuda, Asia and Europe. Mr. Dutton is ranked as a leading practitioner in insurance by Chambers USA (2021). He has also been recommended by Chambers Asia-Pacific (2018), where clients have described him as “valuable, flexible,” and “multi-skilled.” He is praised for his ability to “work very well in a multinational insurance context as well as in China with Chinese entities.” The Legal 500 Asia Pacific (2019) has recommended Mr. Dutton for M&A and Insurance, distinguishing him as a “senior figure” in the market who is “easy to get on with, responsive and tactically astute.” Mr. Dutton has been recognized in Chambers Global for his work in the Insurance, Capital Markets: Equity and Private Equity practice areas and is praised for his levelheadedness, excellent problem-solving skills, intelligence and commerciality. Mr. Dutton joined Debevoise in New York in 1999 and became a partner in 2007. He is admitted to practice as an attorney in New York, an avocat in Paris and a solicitor in Hong Kong and England. Mr. Dutton holds an honors A.B. in East Asian Studies (China) from Harvard College and law degrees from McGill University and the Université de Paris XI.
